We visited the Pantheon, which is an Ancient Roman Temple that was converted into a catholic church in the 7th century a.d. and sketched the front of the building... then we toured in the Piazza Navona which is a Medieval palace site and Ancient Roman athletic center site.... History is literally piled on top of itself in Rome there really isn't any discrimination between the eras its just all there at the same time in the same space... kinda cool to think about...
The Pantheon
If you've ever sat there and wondered to yourself "self... is it hard to draw the Pantheon??".... I've got your answer.... YES!!! it took forever and stinking got me frustrated cause it looked ridiculous.... I'll put up the drawings when we get them back from our instructor so you can see for yourself
Fountain directly across from the Pantheon.
French church that houses some beautiful Carvaggio paintings (pictured below)
All of these paintings depict the catholic St. Matthew
Inside the Pantheon
I had the morning art class so I was the second group to go inside the dome of the Pantheon... It was stinking huge!!! and all over everywhere there's marble from all over the world (turkey, albania, northern italy, egypt... all places in the empire of ancient rome)...
The grave of the painter Rafael... He requested to be buried inside the Pantheon... and got his wish...
Piazza Navona
Piazza Navonna literally means 'Plaza of the Boat'... they thought that naval battles took place here in the ancient athletic center but this has since been disproved... in the Renaissance, rich italians built palaces and a church moved in soon thereafter giving the entire square a beautiful facade and a hefty price tag...
Jesuit church
We walked by a random Jesuit church and on a whim our tour guide took us inside.... it was beautiful... below you can see pictures of the ceiling frescos and a painted dome that the church couldn't afford to actually have built so they settled for a painted one instead...
Trevi Fountain
We walked back by the trevi fountain on our way back to the hotel... first time I'd seen it in the day light and it was really pretty...
look at the lady in the bottom right who is lloking in the total wrong direction... haha hello!! the fountain is behind you...
Karine!!!!!
So we finally met up with Karine, my frind from ASU... totally had no idea she was in Rome and had to hang out... we ate across from the Colosseum and I had my first Burger since we left the states... SO GOOD!!! but coulda used some ranch dressing...
After we walked back to the hotel, I packed up my bag (which is suspiciously empty...) and wrote in my journal then headed to bed...
Dear Rome,
Ciao Ciao!! Arrivederci!!!
